3D Board Games

I have already done a post about board games before but I feel that it can greatly help me if I was to also have a look at 3D board games.

- Mouse Trap -

One of my all time favourite board games which had an amazing and interactive 3D element was the game Mouse Trap(image above) The objective of the game is to try and capture your opponents mice using the mouse trap. Each player rolls one dice and moves around the board landing on spaces which have specific meanings to do with the outcome of the game.

Some of the original 2D board games such as Chess or Chutes/Snakes and ladders have been re design as time has gone on and has had a 3D element added to them. Instead of the games being played on flat boards, developers of the game decided to add this modern twist making it more appealing to the younger generation.
The Next two images, 3D Chutes/Snakes and Ladders and 3D Chess. For anyone that has played or seen any of these two games can really tell the difference in the originals.

- Chutes and Ladders -

In particular, the new 3D concept which is used in the Snakes and Ladders game really makes sense. The original objective of the game was to get from the bottom too the top of the board by rolling a dice. If players landed on a ladder they would use it as a short-cut and advance further up the board. However if the player was to land on a Snake/Chute then they would slide back down the board and further away from the finish.

I believe that the objective in Snakes and Ladders, which is to move from the bottom too the top of the board really benefits from a 3D aspect.

- 3D Chess -

Like 3D Snakes and Ladders, developers had decided to modify the original board game Chess and add a 3D aspect to it. I believe that unlike Snakes and Ladders, this Chess game does not benefit from the 3D. I also believe that the only reason that a 3D aspect has been added to the Chess game is to make it look aesthetically pleasing to the persons playing it.

Below are more examples of 3D board games...

- Batman -

- King of the Hill -

 - Catan -

 - Haunted Mansion -

- Scooby Doo Haunted House -

 - Harry Potter 3D -

- Monopoly City -

  1. What did you use to make the Chutes and Ladders board game? How large in size is it? What did you use to make the game pieces?

I'd really appreciate if you gave me some feedback! I'm trying to start/finish a project by Sunday :)
